Notes for M. Elizabeth MOORE

M. Elizabeth Lawton of Ocean Pines, Md., formerly of West Chester Mrs. M. Elizabeth Lawton died May 10, 2011 at her daughter's home in Ocean Pines. She was the daughter of the late James Cleveland Moore and Anna Garrett Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lawrence E. Lawton. They resided at 5 Patrick Ave. West Chester. She is survived by her daughters, Beverly Bigler and her husband Robert of Ocean Pines, and Barbara L. Lawton of Groton. Conn. She is also survived by a sister, Margaret McBroom of Jonesborough, Tenn., two grandchildren, John C. Chattin and his wife Brenda of Ledyard, Conn. and Dianne T. Orton and her husband Douglas of Conway, S.C., and four great-grandchildren, Grace and Alec Chattin and Heather and Joel Orton. Mrs. Lawton was employed by the Daily Local News of West Chester for 25 years in the classified advertising department. In 1941 a card club was formed and met every other week until 1996. She was one of the two surviving members. In her thirties, she took the lead in many fundraiser plays for the PTA of West Goshen School. Not Broadway quality, but fun for all. Her sense of humor was quite active until the end. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Berlin, Md.
