Roger P. Hollingsworth, 95, a retired metal company owner, died Tuesday at Waverly Heights, a retirement community in Gladwyne.
Mr. Hollingsworth grew up in West Chester.
In 1927 he and other members of Paoli Boy Scout Troop 1, attended an International Jamboree in England. The scouts camped on the estate of Lord Baden Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts, and later visited World War I battlefields, where their scoutmaster had fought. Mr. Hollingsworth remained active with the Paoli troop for the rest of his life, his grandson Dixon Shay said.
After graduating from St. Agnes High School in West Chester, he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He then joined the former Bauerly and Morris Coppersmithing in Philadelphia. He eventually became owner and retired in 1974.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Forces in the Pacific. He was discharged as a major.
For 25 years, until 2000, Mr. Hollingsworth was president of the Hoxie Harrison Smith Foundation in Devon, which funds charities and educational programs.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Isabelle Hollingsworth; daughters, Anne Arfaa and Jeanette Ben-Attar; a sister; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. His former wives, Anne Hollingsworth and Sarah Sands, died before him.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Laurel Hill Cemetery, 3822 Ridge Ave., Philadelphia, followed by a reception at Waverly Heights, 1400 Waverly Rd., Gladwyne.
