Notes for Hazel Grey JONES

Hazel Carpenter passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2014 with her family by her side. Hazel was born January of 1919 in Wilmington, DE to the late Howard and Jennie Jones.

Hazel grew up in Wilmington and graduated from P.S. du Pont High School and raised her children in Centreville, DE. She was a long time member of Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. In addition, she sang for several years with the Blue Rocks Chorus. When she was in her early eighties she began sketching and took great pride in her work. She loved traveling, enjoying the sights from Portugal to Alaska as well as the west coast of the U.S. Mostly, she enjoyed trips with her family to the Delaware beach.

Hazel is survived by her children, James Carpenter (Patricia) of Fair Hill, MD, Karen Carpenter of Chadds Ford, PA and Kay Thompson; 4 grandchildren, Jac (Janet), Susan, Amy, and Jennifer; and 6 great-grandchildren. Sazie held a special place in Amy and Jennifer’s heart and they lovingly helped her until her last breath. She was preceded in death by her former husband James and her sisters Ruth Rogers and Helen Spencer.
