Notes for John Alfred Jr. COMLY
RETIRED MANAGER, 81 John A. Comly Jr., 81, who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor and retired as a production manager, died Thursday at his home in Venice, Fla. He had been ill for several years.
Mr. Comly retired in 1975 after many years with Corrugated Products Corp. in Philadelphia. He moved from Ithan, Delaware County, to Venice 14 years ago.
A native of Jenkintown, he was serving in the Navy at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked on Dec. 7, 1941. He served aboard a destroyer escort and rose to the rank of lieutenant commander.
He was a member of the American Legion and of a destroyer escort survivors society.
Mr. Comly resided in Jenkintown for many years before moving to Ithan.
His first wife, Joan Moriarty Comly, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Scott Comly; a daughter, Penny Herlihy; a sister; a brother; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
Friends may call after 11:30 a.m. today at Carmel Presbyterian Church, 100 Edge Hill Rd. in Glenside, where a funeral will be held at noon. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham Avenue and Easton Road, Wyndmoor.
