Notes for William Gaines BLASDEL
William Gaines Blasdel, 81, a Navy captain who retired in 1968 as assistant deputy commander for supply operations of the Navy Bureau of Supplies and Accounts, died of pneumonia and renal failure Jan. 16 at Howard County General Hospital. A former resident of Chevy Chase, he lived in Columbia.
Capt. Blasdel was a native of Strathmore, Pa., and a 1938 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He served in Iceland, the Pacific and North Africa during World War II and later had Supply Corps assignments in the Marshall Islands and in the United States. At the Pentagon, his posts included the Joint Chiefs of Staff's division of materiel and services, which he directed.
After he retired, Capt. Blasdel was a technical analyst until 1981 with the McLaughlin Research Corp. in Silver Spring.
His wife, Janice Frankenberger Blasdel, died in 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Hugo Blasdel of Washington and William Gaines Blasdel Jr. of Philadelphia; a sister, Irene Patterson of Burlington, W.Va.; and five grandchildren.
