Notes for Richard Hilton VAN WINCKEL
Dallas Morning News, The (TX) - October 9, 2008
Deceased Name: Van Winckel, Richard H
Van Winckel, Richard Hilton "Rip" March 29, 1941 - October 7, 2008. A man of many names, Wink, Rip, Rippy, Richard, Bud, Dad and Grandpa Rip....was fitting for a man of so many talents and interests. A quiet reserved person at home...a faithful and loyal friend...a producer of joy and laughter and fun...creator of the "massive"...an intellectual on any subject...a wonderful cook...a problem-solver... an advocate for rights...a marathon runner and dedicated exerciser...a talented athlete...an amazing architectural designer and builder...a lover of State Parks, White Rock Lake and Highway 1 on the West Coast...unafraid to try anything...a visionary...a simple but complex person...a respecter of nature...an artistic photographer...a lover of big tires and loud mufflers, beautiful cars and racy boats...a man of high morals and integrity, a loving son, a proud father to three sons (Rodney, Randy, and Jeffrey (Fife) and one step-daughter (Kaci), grandfather to five granddaughters (Keri, Jamie, Amber, Sarah and Taylor), and great-grandfather to two great-granddaughters...a soul mate and savior to one...an inspiration and an example to all to live and appreciate each moment to the fullest, love where you are, be authentic, and follow your bliss. On the wall in his office along with his runner's accomplishments and pictures, were framed copies, nothing fancy, of Desiderata and Success...his "words to live by". Over and over, when Rip walked away, people would comment, "I have never met anyone like Rip". And that's so true...there is no other like him. A website has been set up to share memories and stories at www.sympathytree.com/ripvw. Richard learned that he had inoperable lung cancer in April 2008. To fulfill his request for "the opportunity for someone else to continue to live", he donated his body to medical research. For a memorial service, find a walking trail...around White Rock Lake, a Texas State Park, a river in Santa Fe...there remember and celebrate the life of Richard Van Winckel. A celebration and remembrance of the life of Rip Van Winckel will be Saturday, October 18th, 5 p.m. "a night at his Bud's house", Tommy Huffhines, 2016 Winding Hollow, Plano, Texas 75093.
