Golfer, volunteer, 84

Pauline Foraker Marshall, 84, of Rosemont, a volunteer with Planned Parenthood and a talented golfer, died of complications from Alzheimer's disease Thursday at Beaumont Health Center in Bryn Mawr.
Mrs. Marshall was born in Washington, where her grandfather, Joseph Foraker, served as a U.S. senator from Ohio. She graduated from Chatham Hall, a boarding school in Virginia, and attended Bennington College in Vermont.
In 1938 she married Frederick Marshall Jr., whom she had met at a party at the Radnor Hunt Club. The couple reared three daughters in Wayne.
Mrs. Marshall was a member of the Gulph Mills Golf Club and played on its women's team, which won the Philadelphia Cup championship in 1968, 1969 and 1970.
A longtime volunteer for Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania, she served on the association's board for 20 years and in the 1980s headed its development committee.
Her daughter, Bundy Purnell, said her mother loved golf and loved to dance.
In addition to Mrs. Purnell and her husband of 64 years, Mrs. Marshall is survived by daughters Pauline San Roman and Carol Paumgarten; a sister; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at noon Thursday at the Church of the Redeemer, Pennswood and New Gulph Roads, Bryn Mawr.
