Notes for Margaret Ann HOOVER
Margaret Hoover Brigham of West Chester Margaret Hoover Brigham, 84, of West Chester, died Monday, February 14, 2011 at home. She was the wife of Richard T. Brigham. Born in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Herbert Hoover, Jr. and the late Margaret Watson Hoover. Margaret was the oldest grandchild of President Herbert Hoover. She grew up in San Marino and Sierra Madre, Calif. and had lived in West Chester since 1957. Margaret earned a BA from Wellesley College in Massachusetts. She loved to play the piano and was a member of the Birmingham Friends Meeting in West Chester, where she was a soloist at the Christmas Sing for many years. Margaret also sang with the Greenlea Chorale and was a former member of the choir of Church of the Advent in Kennett Square. She was a Radio Ham and briefly served on the Board of Directors of the Chester County Library, former advisory board member of Good Fellowship Ambulance Company and was the founder of the Chester County Emergency Services before the County took it over. Margaret raised and raced thoroughbred horses for the past 40 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Katharine S. Brigham of West Chester; daughter Ann Thomas of Louisville, Ky.; son, Robert Brigham of Santa Monica, Calif.; daughter, Deborah Wray of Charlottsville, Va.; son, Douglas Brigham of Erwinna, Pa.; three grandsons, Stephen, Matthew and Nathan and her great-granddaughter, Samantha. She was preceded in death by her brother, Herbert "Pete" Hoover III and sister, Joan Vowles. Relatives and friends are invited to her memorial service, 1 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2011, Birmingham Friends Meeting, 1745 Birmingham Rd., West Chester. Interment will be private.
