Notes for Ruth Ingram HINKSON

Ruth Hinkson Hammond
Age 98, died Sunday January 23, 2011 at Sunrise of Wilmington.
Born to the late Harry M. and Mary Hinkson, Ruth was a lifetime Wilmingtonian. She graduated from Wilmington High in 1931 and worked at the family business, Hinkson Dairy located near 11th and Monroe Sts. She married her husband, A. Henry Hammond, in 1934 and they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage together, living mainly in the Wilmington area, except for 18 months when work took Henry to Lewes. Ruth and Henry were "Airstreamers" and enjoyed taking vacations to different destinations across the U.S. They were members of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International.
Ruth was a 3rd generation member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where she was very active in the choir and Sunday school. In her spare time she enjoyed painting, especially pastel flowers, holly, and pine, and was a very gifted pianist. She will best be remembered as being the family seamstress. Ruth made clothing for the entire family all her life.
Being a descendent of early Swedish settlers in New Castle, Ruth became interested in genealogy, and spent many hours researching her family history. She was a member of Caesar Rodney Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and The Cameo Societ‚, Delaware State Society, NSDAR.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was predeceased by her brother, Harry Hinkson Jr., who was killed in Germany during WWII; sister, Marguerite Beach and her husband, Hollis; and her son-in-law, William D. "Pat" Mathewson. Ruth is survived by her daughter, MaryJane H. Mathewson.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 28th at 2 pm at the McCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 where friends are invited to call after 1:30. Interment will be at Elam United Methodist Church Cemetery.
