Notes for James Joseph Foxx LAMBORN
James Joseph Lamborn
Age 80, died peacefully on January 5, 2011. Born October 6, 1930, he was a 1948 graduate of Kennett High School. He played soccer, basketball, baseball and track.
Jim was voted Senior Athlete of the Year along with Jerry Donohoe and Joe Whiteside. He was President of Chester County Future Farmers of America.
Jim had a try-out with Brooklyn Dodgers. He played semi-pro baseball with the Delaware National Guard, managed by his brother, Paul Lamborn. He played basketball in the DuPont League and Church Leagues.
He was Assistant Director of St. Edmond's Midget Boys Basketball League for many years while coaching 5th and 6th grade boys at St. Ann's. He also coached Senior Girls basketball at St. Ann's.
Jim served in the Delaware National Guard for 9 years under Captain Frank P. Vavala.
He worked in DuPont's General Services as Mail Transportation Supervisor from 1950 until retirement in 1982. He also worked at Brandywine Raceway as Director of Program Sales for over 20 years.
Jim enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren playing sports. He was an avid horseracing fan and thoroughbred owner.
He was the son of the late Paul and Ruth (Vandever) Lamborn. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Marie Desmond, Paul Lamborn, Therese Zimmerman, and Ruthann Lamborn. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lolita H. Lamborn; his children, Joyce Mahoney (Jim), Valorie Maloney (Rob), Jim (Kevin) Gail Golacinski (Don), Larry, Jerry (Erika), Michele Riehle (Rick), and Cheryl Brown (Dennis); his grandchildren, Kathleen, Jimmy, Lauren & Erin (Mahoney); Brianna and Blaire (Maloney; Meg and Leah (Lamborn); Tyler and Kyrstyn (Golacinski); Jessica, Jasmine, and Jada (Lamborn) and Eric (Butler); Fred, Alex and Michael (Riehle); Jamie (Houck) and Kylie (Brown); great grandchild, Justin (Mahoney); and his sisters, Patricia Begley (Ed) and Lois Fuqua (Bob).
The family wishes to thank Marquist of Heartland Hospice for her excellent care and assistance.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Ann's R. C. Church, Gilpin Ave. & Union St., on Tuesday morning, January 11, at 11 am. Interment is private.
