Preston "Dutch" Aishton, 78, of Naples, Fla. and formerly of Glenview, died June 17 in Naples.
Mr. Aishton was born May 1, 1924 in Evanston. He was raised in Winnetka, graduated from New Trier High School in 1942, and then attended college at Dartmouth and Stanford University.
Mr. Aishton served honorably as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, receiving the Silver Star for bravery and heroism during World War II. In 1946, Mr. Aishton began a long and successful career with Sears, Roebuck and Co. He retired in 1984.
While residing in Glenview, Mr. Aishton served on the Glenview Library Board, the Glenbrook South High School Board and taught Sunday School at the Glenview Community Church. He was also very active in the Chicago Commons Charitable Organization and the United Way.
While in retirement in Naples, he became active in the Philharmonic Center for the Arts, the United Church of Christ and The Nature Conservancy.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of
Naples, Fla.; two daughters, Mary Suzanne
Aishton of Boulder, Colo., and Martha (Brian) Aishton Hall of Orlean, Va.; a son, Richard Scott (Kathy) of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren, Richard Tyler and Katherine Elizabeth Aishton of San Diego and Kenneth Christopher and Kelsey Anna Hall of Orlean, Va.; and two brothers, Richard Henry (Joan) of Kenilworth and Andrew W. (Jean) of Ft. Myers, Fla.
A memorial service was held Friday, June 21, in Naples, Fla. Interment was in Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charitable organization of your choice.
