Notes for Lisbeth MALE
Cecil Whig (Elkton, MD) - May 2, 2006
Deceased Name: Lisbeth M. Woods
Lisbeth Male Woods died April 28, 2006, in Southampton Memorial Hospital after multiple medical complications following knee replacement surgery.
Lisbeth was born in Buffalo, N.Y., May 11, 1932, the daughter of Tess and Arthur Male. She graduated from Randolph Macon Women's College in 1954 with a degree in music and Latin and was married to W.S.D. "Chip" Woods Jr. the same year. After living in several different locations during the early years of their marriage, the couple settled in Franklin which quickly became "home." Lisbeth was very active in the community where she made a wealth of friends. She was a Brownie leader, Pink Lady at the hospital, taught piano and was active in the PTA, an elder at Emmanuel Episcopal Church and a member of The Garden Club of Virginia. Two of her great pleasures in life were gardening and bridge. She shared her knowledge of these interests and her enthusiasm, which in turn, gave her many hours of enjoyment. Lisbeth's greatest passion was her family. Her husband, her children, their spouses and her grandchildren were showered with love, bear hugs and her famous chocolate chip cookies. As time passed, Chip's job took them to New Jersey and upon retirement to Virginia Beach where Lisbeth became a real estate agent, an occupation which was enhanced by her enjoyment of people. It can be said she never met a stranger. She continued her real estate career in Virginia Beach with Long & Foster. The lifelong friends made so many years previously pulled at their heart strings. So, in 1999, they moved back to Franklin. They quickly discovered they were "home" again amongst the friends that had become their family. Lisbeth's parting words were always "I'm crazy about you." Her family and friends were "crazy" about her and will miss her tremendously.
Lisbeth is survived by her husband of 51 years, W.S.D. "Chip" Woods Jr.; son, W.S. Derrick Woods III and his wife Nancy Guyer Woods of Lawrenceville, Ga.; daughter, Marbara Ellen Woods and her partner in life Terry Allen Morris of Port Deposit, Md.; son, Wilton Reid Woods of San Francisco, Calif.; grandchildren, Travis G. Woods and R. Morgan Woods of Lawrenceville; and sisters, Barbara Rockwell of Silver Lake, N.H., and Patricia Jones and her husband Robert F. Jones of Florence, Ala.; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday commencing at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Edmund Pickup and the Rev. Ben Duffy officiating, immediately followed by a graveside service. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home located at 206 W. Fourth Ave., Franklin.
