Notes for Miriam Fox TYSON

Miriam F. Eckels, 95, of Cantonsville, Md., formerly of Upper Darby, a retired supervisor for a greeting card company and Sunday school teacher, died July 14 at Charlestown Retirement Community.
Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Eckels was a resident of the Secane section of Upper Darby for 45 years before moving to Catonsville in 1999.
Mrs. Eckels was a supervisor for the Lipschultz Organization, a greeting card company, for many years. Following her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Red Cross on their blood drives for twenty years. She had also been a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Clifton Heights.
Mrs. Eckels lived through the Great Depression and enjoyed telling stories to tell her children and grandchildren about the times.
A Sunday school teacher for many years, Mrs. Eckels was known as an animated storyteller who made fairy tales come alive.
She enjoyed teaching her children charity, love of education and thriftiness.
Mrs. Eckels often went camping with her family, and enjoyed spending time with them outdoors. She was devoted to sending birthday cards to all fifteen grandchildren. She loved to dance around the room to the Mummer’s strut, to throw parties and family dinners and to host Easter egg hunts and Christmas gatherings.
To honor her, the Miriam Fox Eckels Memorial Fund was created through the Alzheimer’s Association.
She was the mother of the late Donald Eckels. She was the daughter the late Clara Marguerite Tyson and Edward Hallowell Tyson. She was the sister of the late Harold, Marguerite, Barbara, and twin Evelyn. She was the widow of Robert Eckels, who died in 1979. They were married 45 years.
Survivors: Daughter, Grace Scott of Owings Mills, Md., son, Ronald Eckels of El Paso, Texas; 15 grandchildren; more than 38 great-grandchildren and more than nine great-great-grandchildren.
Service: 11a.m. Friday at Toppitzer Funeral Home at Arlington, 2900 State Road, Drexel Hill section of Upper Darby.
Visitation: After 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial: Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill section of Upper Darby.
