GREENVILLE, Del. Peter Allison, 78, of Greenville and Frankford, W.Va., died Oct. 30, in West Virginia of complications from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease.)
Mr. Allison was the son of James and Anne Allison of Richmond, Va., and Wilmington, Del.
His preparatory schools included Woodberry Forest, Wilmington Friends and McDonogh. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served as a radioman in the European and Asiatic theatres during World War II until 1946, after which he attended the University of Delaware.
After three years a the Equitable Trust Company, Mr. Allison joined Paul J. Nowland & Company, members of the New York Stock Exchange, where he worked as a general partner and branch manager from 1953 to 1970. From 1970 until his retirement in 1985, he served as vice president and director of Laird, Bissell & Meeds, which merged with Dean Witter & Company, now Morgan Stanley.
Among his many community activities, Mr. Allison served as president of the Lincoln Club of Delaware and the Tower Hill Home & School Association and was past president emeritus of Family and Children's services of Delaware. He also served as a director of Planned Parenthood of Delaware, the Children's Home, the Brandywine Valley Association and Old Swedes Church Foundation and as treasurer of the Wilmington Music School, the Trinity Foundation, Kentmere Home of Merciful Rest and Trinity Episcopal Church.
He was a founder and the first president of Greenville Country Club, a member of the Recess Club and the Coral Beach and Tennis Club of Bermuda and a 50-year honorary member of the Wilmington Club.
After his retirement, he spent much of his time on his farm in Frankford.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Nowland Allison; his brother, Neville M. Allison of Moody, Texas; a son, Jay Allison of Woods Hole, Mass.; two daughters, Ginna Allison of Albany, Calif., Kate Kibler of West Grove, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
He will be remembered by his family and friends for his boundless good humor, inventive spirit and absolute integrity.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at St. James Episcopal Church, Lewisburg, where Mr. Allison was a member. Burial will be private.
A memorial service will be held in Delaware at a later date.
