Samuel Francis du Pont, 85, of Georgetown, MD, passed away Monday, August 3, 2015.

Born April 13, 1930, Sam was the son of the late Ernest and Anne (Thompson) du Pont. Among the numerous organizations Sam was active with, he was most notably known for formerly holding office as the Cecil County Sheriff during the early 1970s.

Sam is survived by his sons, Richard Eric du Pont of Georgetown, MD, Pierre Samuel du Pont of Kennett Square, PA ,John E. B. du Pont of Greenville, DE, and; daughters, Diane du Pont Beck of Georgetown, MD and Catharine du Pont Varacchi of Kennett Square, PA; grandchildren, Jennifer D. Beck of Warwick, MD, Ernest E. Beck, III of Georgetown, MD, Richard Samuel du Pont of Whitaker, NC, Emily du Pont and Elizabeth du Pont of Greenville, DE, Christopher Varacchi and Stephanie Varacchi of Kennett Square, PA; and seven great grandchildren. Including his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Joanne Smith Jeffries du Pont who passed away in 2010.
