Notes for James A. Jr. HANNUM

James A. Hannum Jr., 88, of Chadds Ford, a retired longtime truck driver for Sunoco, died May 28 at Brinton Manor Nursing Home in Concord.
He was born in Upland. He was reared in Marcus Hook. He resided the past five years with his son Robert in Chadds Ford. Mr. Hannum previously lived in Pot Nets, Del. He graduated from Eddystone High School. He served in the Navy during World War II until 1945 and in the Korean War until 1952.
He worked as a truck driver in transportation for Sunoco for 34 years, retiring in 1981. After retiring, he worked for Mellon Bank for 10 years on ATM maintenance.
Mr. Hannum was a member of the Claymont Fire Co. and the Chester Men’s Major League and Penn City Lake. An avid bowler, he also participated in national, regional and local tournaments in the Delaware County area. He loved watching and following NASCAR and all sports. He also enjoyed listening to his police and fire scanner.
He was always known for a joke and having a cigar in his mouth.
He was the son of the late James A. Hannum Sr. and Helena Shaw Hannum. He was predeceased by his wife, Amy W. Garrett Hannum, in 2001; a son, Robert Hannum, in 1994; and a sister, Mildred Simoneau.
Survivors: Son, Richard Hannum of Chadds Ford; brother, Robert Hannum of Palm Harbor, Fla.; one granddaughter.
