Notes for Edward Wilmore Jr. ROGERS
Edward Wilmore "Snooky" Rogers, 86, of Kennett Square, died peacefully on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Christiana Hospital after a long illness.
He was born in Georgetown, Del., the son of the late Edward W. and Bertie Ellingsworth Rogers.
Ed was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the 1st Provincial Artillery Brigade as a radio operator in the South Pacific.
After the war, he worked as an electrician for McHugh Electric Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 313 and he was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying collegiate and professional football.
Ed was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Elaine Newlin Rogers, in 1997; his son, Stephen Edward Rogers, in 2009; his brother, Henry Rogers; and his two sisters, Marguerite Hill and Doris Taylor.
He is survived by his sons, John Alan Rogers and his wife, Bonny, of Pike Creek, and Mark Dallas Rogers and his wife, Karen, of Avondale; his daughter, Cynthia Haigh and her husband, Roger, of Landenberg; his seven grandchildren, Jillian, Timothy, Shannon, Rachel, Jennifer, Daniel and Krista; and his great-granddaughter, Reagan.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, May 12, at the Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown roads, Wilmington, Del., where friends may call after 11 a.m.
Burial will be private.
