He lived with his parents until April 21, 1842, when he was married to Melvina Farmer, and moved to Cass county, Illinois, and made them a good home. He joined the Primitive Baptist church in 1856 and remained a devoted Christian until the last. In 1866 they moved to Leroy, Kansas, but resided there only a short while and removed to Illinois. In 1873 they settled in McPherson county, Kansas, being one among the oldest settlers, he owned the half section now owned by William Pack. In 1881 he located in Oregon and in 1885 returned to Kansas, purchasing a home in Sumner county. He afterwards sold out there and lived about four years at Velasco, Texas, on the coast, when he came to Kansas to live with his children the remainder of his days. He died at the home of his youngest daughter now living, Mrs. Harnden, and leaves a wife, five daughters and four sons to mourn his loss. The Rev. Snavely spoke very comforting words to the bereaved onces, after which the remains were laid to rest in a nice cemetery one mile from the daughter's home. Blessed are they who die in the Lord.
