Notes for Agnes Louise SNYDER
Agnes Snyder Pennock, age 83, died on July 3, 2009, at the Crosslands Retirement Community in Kennett Square, PA.
A long-time Quaker and Wilmington resident, Agnes and her late husband, Ted, were active in the Wilmington and Hockessin Monthly Meetings of Friends. Agnes was the eldest child of Hiram L. and Margaret H. Snyder and grew up in Harrisburg and Reading, PA. Agnes was a long-time staff member at Wilmington Friends School. She was a gifted needlework artist whose works received numerous awards. Her most accomplished work was the ABC's of Quakerism, a traveling exhibit housed at the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Friends. Agnes graduated from Albright College in Reading, PA and earned a MA in Religious Education from Scarritt College in Nashville, TN in 1949. She returned to school to earn a master's degree in Social Work from Temple University at age 60, and worked as a gerontologist until her retirement.
Survivors include 3 children, Jonathan Rhoads Pennock (Margo) of Lee, NH, Margaret Tatnall Pennock (David Wood) of Silver Spring, MD, Edward Snyder Pennock (Carol) of Centerville, OH; her brother, John William Snyder of Jasper, GA; and 7 grandchildren.
A Memorial Meeting for Worship will be held in the William Penn Room at the Crosslands Retirement Community on Monday, July 20, at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Agnes' name may be made to the Friends Education Fund, Inc., 1515 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102.
