Notes for Charles Willard TAYLOR
Charles W. Taylor, 90, of Richland, Wash. (2005-present), and formerly of University Heights, Ohio (1950-2005), and of Unionville (1919-1950), passed away on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Kadlec Hospital in Richland, Wash.
He was the husband of Doris (nee Denison) Taylor, with whom he celebrated 17 years of marriage.
Born on March 7, 1919, in Chester County, he was the son of the late Hayes Clark Taylor and Catharine Tanguy Sharpless.
He was a mechanical engineer at National Castings, a division of Midland-Ross, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he designed railcar undercarriages until his retirement.
He graduated from Unionville High School.
An avid soccer fan, he played soccer for Penn State for three years, graduating with a degree in music education.
He also enjoyed genealogy and, when his son, Ron, was young, serving as a beachcombing companion and baseball coach for Ron.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in England and France as a sergeant in the 483rd Engineering Maintenance Company.
After the war, he returned to Penn State for a degree in mechanical engineering.
He was a member of VFW Post 7416 in South Euclid, Ohio.
He was also a member of Epworth-Euclid United Methodist Church in Cleveland, Ohio, where he sang in the choir for most of his adult life.
He is survived by one son, Ronald C. Taylor of Kennewick, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, who died in 1971; and by his sister, Muriel (nee Taylor) Yarnall; and his brother, Burdsall H. Taylor.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, where family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in London Grove Friends Cemetery, Kennett Square
