Mary Bell Pennock, age 77, of Elkton, MD, died at home early morning Monday, May 15, 2006.
Born in Elkton, MD on October 31, 1928, she was the only daughter of the late Joseph Hamilton and Carrie Bell Knox. Mrs. Pennock was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. Along with her late husband of 54 years, Walter Merritt Pennock, they had owned Bridge Street Warehouses, as well as other former Elkton area businesses. They also had owned an antique business and Mary Bell's Tots Till Teens. A devout member of Immaculate Conception Church, Mrs. Pennock was very active in the Women's Sodality Club. She was also very active in her high school alumni association and highly enjoyed meeting with her card club friends monthly. She was a volunteer at the local hospice for several years. Mrs. Pennock also enjoyed writing short stories and was very proud of a publication about her grandson.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Linda Camara, Loree Kelly and husband, Tim, all of Hendersonville, NC, Lois Bishop and husband, Andrew, Aguascalientes, MX, and Lesley Smith and husband, Gary, Elkton, MD; grandchildren, Christina Gregor, Robert and George Camara, and Eric, Brooke, and Haley Smith; 5 great-grandchildren; and brother, Ralph Knox, Elkton, MD.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Pennock was preceded in death by her daughter, Loraine Carol Pennock; and brothers, Paul Webster and Hugh T. Knox.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 18, 2006, at Immaculate Conception Church, Bow St., Elkton, MD. Visitation will be in the church chapel from 9 AM to 10:15 AM. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD.
