Notes for James Horace Jr. MENDENHALL
James “Jim” Horace Mendenhall, Jr., passed away on March 20, 2018, at the age of 96. He is survived by his wife, Marie Mendenhall (née Lord); his step-son, Robert Patterson; his daughter-in-law, Terry Heiman-Patterson; and his grandchildren, Rachel Patterson Moles, Elizabeth Patterson, and Justin Patterson. He was predeceased by his son, James Mendenhall, III. Jim was born in Langhorne, PA, on May 15, 1921, to James Mendenhall, Sr., and Alice Mendenhall (née Ivens). He graduated from the Church Farm School in Exton, PA, in 1939, where he was the recipient of the Headmaster’s Watch Award for excellence in achievement and character. He attended classes at Drexel University before enlisting in the US Navy and serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After returning to the US, he established a career as a Production Control Manager. Jim married his first wife and welcomed his son “Jimmy” in 1945. He married his second wife, Marie, in 1959, and became a stepfather to her son Robert. Jim and Marie enjoyed a long, happy life together. They traveled extensively, went on cruises, and especially loved dancing. Jim was an adoring “Pop Pop” who doted on his 3 grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:00PM on April 15 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1105 East Lincoln Highway, Exton, PA 19341.
