Notes for Catherine SYPHARD

Catherine Syphard Barnard, 89, of Unionville, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Pocopson Home.
She was the wife of Richard W. Barnard, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage.
Born in Phoenixville, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Clara M. Shingle Syphard.
Catherine grew up in West Chester and graduated from West Chester High School in 1938 and from Strayers Business School. She was a secretary for Solvay Chemical Co., Philadelphia, for 10 years, and later worked as the bookkeeper for Barnard's Orchard and Greenhouses, the family business.
She was a member of East Lynn Grange and volunteered for community activities and numerous school functions while her son attended school in Unionville.
While driving all night on a car trip with her parents, she passed through Chicago and by only minutes missed seeing Dillinger get shot ... darn it! She loved to dance and was once complimented by Guy Lombardo for her version of the Alley Cat! She was the strength behind the success of other people. Her husband, Richard died on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Pocopson Home.
Catherine is survived by her son, Lewis M. Barnard, of Unionville, and cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date and interment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Marlborough Friends Meeting.
