Notes for Ellen Milnor KLAPP

According to her granddaughter, "Ellen herself was brilliant. She had been brought up by her uncle, the Rev. [James] Milner of New York, who gave to her the education usually reserved in those days for boys. She was as fine a Greek and Latin scholar as her clergyman husband and always read her Bible in the original. She was a charming and witty conversationist and letter writer and very sweet in character. Everyone who had known Ellen Klapp and spoke of her in my presence when I was a child did so with deep affection and admiration."
