Notes for Ronald Earl WOODWARD
Ronald Earl Woodward, 80, went home to be with the Lord on August 5, 2015 at Vibra Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, SC after a three month battle following heart surgery. Ron was born in Hockessin, DE and later moved to the family farm in the Faulkland area of Wilmington, DE. He was a 1952 graduate of Conrad High School and attended Goldey Beacon College. During the Korean War era he served in the Delaware Air National Guard. He was an insurance agent for 40 years. Ron enjoyed a lifelong interest in sports, especially baseball. At age 19 he was invited to the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball school on the recommendation of a well known scout at the time who saw his potential as a pitcher. Ron had vast knowledge of all things, WWII, The Civil War and sports in general. He could quote stories and statistics with amazing recall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. Woodward and his mother Lareine P. Woodward and his brother, William J. Woodward. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Cathel Ross Woodward; son, R. Gregory Woodward; niece, Rhonda W. Hutchinson (Robert); nephew, Mark A. Woodward (Mary) several cousins especially David H. Woodward (Nancy K.) and Ray K. Woodward (Nancy W.); lifelong friends Richard and Sandra Moore and their daughter, Tracy Moore.
A memorial service will be held on August 27, 2015 at 11:00am at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennans Church Road Wilmington, DE 19808. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Wounded Warriors Project: 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300 Jacksonville, FL 32256 or to Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church.
