Notes for William J. WOODWARD

William J. Woodward (Bill) age 79 of Wilmington, DE and Cape May Point, NJ passed from this life Sunday, September 20, 2009 at his home.
Son of Joseph Earl and Lareine P. Woodward, Bill was born at the Homeopathic Hospital in Wilmington and resided in his beloved Hockessin. In 1936, his family moved from their Hockessin home to their Produce and Poultry Farm located at Faulkland and Centerville Roads the property is now known as Tybrook and Faulkland Woods Ext. Bill was a proud graduate of the Class of '48 at Conrad High School and attended West Nottingham Academy.
In 1949, Bill signed as a pitcher with the Boston Braves Baseball Organization. During the Korean War conflict, Bill joined the Delaware Air National Guard in 1950. In 1952, Bill became a Plumber's Apprentice at George A. Davis and later with Edward McCallister. In 1956, Bill started Wm. J. Woodward Plumbing, Inc. and worked up until his passing. Bill is a lifetime member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church and served in the first Class of Deacons at Red Clay and as President of the Cemetery Committee. He coached 13-15 year olds in the Stanton Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was member of Armstrong Lodge AFAM, Newport, DE and Hockessin Lions Club. Bill was an enthusiastic fan of all athletics and could be spotted at many local sporting events including being a season ticket holder since 1975 for U of D Football and Basketball.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Frances (Heal) Woodward; brother Ronald E., wife Cathel and nephew Greg Woodward of Pawley's Island, SC; daughter Rhonda and husband Bob Hutchinson; son Mark A. and wife Mary Woodward and the joys of his life, his grandchildren; Robert W. Hutchinson, Sara J. Woodward and Joseph N. Woodward and many special cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, friends and members of Conrad's Class of '48.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at 12:30 pm at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennan's Church Road, Wilm, DE. Burial will be private.
