Notes for William M. MENDENHALL

William M. Mendenhall, Sr., age 87, of Kirkwood, PA, formerly of Norwood and Glenolden, PA, died on Monday, April 6, 2009 at the Jennersville Regional Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Helen M. Imberg who passed away in 1997. Together they had shared 54 years of marriage. Born in Norwood, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Rathfon Mendenhall.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII . He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, American THR Service Medal and the Victory Medal. He was a self-employed auto mechanic all of his working life in Norwood and Glenolden, PA, and he owned and operated Bill's Gulf in Glenolden until he retired in 1984.He loved to Bowl and he did so up until age 86. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed Deep Sea Fishing and loved his cats. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 507 of Norwood, PA and a member of the F. and A. M. Lodge 578 of Prospect Park, PA.
Bill is survived by 3 children, William M. Mendenhall, Jr. of Morton, PA, Judy L. (Roy) Grinestaff of Kirkwood, PA and Gary S. (Susan) Mendenhall of Oxford, PA, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a sister, Marguerite Rolls of Lancaster, PA. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret A. Petralia, in 1982.
Bill's funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 11:30 AM from the Ruffenach Funeral Home, 224 Penn Avenue, Oxford, PA 19363 (610-932-2277). Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 to 11:30 AM. Interment will be in Philadelphia Memorial Park in Malvern, PA.
