Notes for Milton Cather WOODLEN
Milton C. Woodlen, 89, an educator who studied how children learn and a theater enthusiast, died of pneumonia Dec. 11 at Bellingham, a retirement community in East Goshen.
For 14 years in the 1950s and 1960s, Dr. Woodlen was an instructor and research administrator in the education department at West Chester University, where he also stage-managed student productions.
Dr. Woodlen grew up in Chester. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Temple University on the same day in 1936 and earned a doctorate in education from Temple in 1946.
In 1965, he left West Chester to become associate director of the Eastern Regional Institute for Education in Syracuse, N.Y. In 1970, he became director of research and evaluation in the education department of Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pa.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth; daughters Anne, Ruth, Mary Elizabeth Hoskins, and Jean Bayley; a son, Richard; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Brookside Building, Bellingham, 1615 E. Boot Rd., East Goshen. Burial is private.
