Notes for Charlotte Virginia BRADFORD
Charlotte Virginia Bradford Twaddell, 88, of Chester Springs, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at her home surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife of the late Hibberd M. Twaddell, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage prior to his passing in 1991.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Clayton C. and Emily V. Wilson Bradford.
A graduate of Yeadon High School, Charlotte worked as a secretary for Wm. A. Bender and Kemper Insurance in Philadelphia. Charlotte was an accomplished singer and appeared on several Philadelphia TV Stations including the Miss Greater Philadelphia Contest of 1950. Recently, she sang in the choir and did solo selections at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Chester Springs.
In 1951, Charlotte married Hibberd Twaddell of Chester Springs. Along with Hiram Twaddell and Hibberd, Charlotte operated the Twaddell Diner in Paoli for 30 years. After the sale of the restaurant, Charlotte and Hib operated Hot Diggity Dog in the Exton Mall for several years. Charlotte was active in Real Estate Sales for many years and also in the sale of art and antiques. She was a great cook, following in the footsteps of her mother and mother-in-law. Charlotte enjoyed collecting art and painting and entertaining family and friends.
Charlotte was recognized by the Senate of Pennsylvania for her years of advocacy with the mentally challenged. She was past president of Malvern Jr. Women’s Club, The ARC of Chester County, The Arc of Pennsylvania and the Advisory Board of the C.C. MH/MR.
She is survived by her children, Howard M. Twaddell of St. Peters, Beverly J. Twaddell of Malvern and James E. Twaddell of Chester Springs; and by her precious grandsons, Michael and Eric Twaddell. Her many friends, nieces and nephews will miss her loving companionship. Charlotte’s only brother, Howard K. Bradford predeceased her.
A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2020 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1239 Clover Mill Road, Chester Springs. at 11:30 a.m., we will process outside to the church cemetery for the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1239 Clover Mill Road, Chester Springs, Pa 19425.
