Notes for Samuel McCosky PINKERTON
Obituary: Chester County Local, July 22, 1890.
"Our columns again record the death of an old resident of our county. Mr. Samuel Pinkerton, who died this morning at Cape May Point, New Jersey, was born in Honeybrook Township in 1804, of John W. and Nancy Pinkerton. He was one of a large group of brothers and sisters, all of whom he survived. His brothers graduated from Princeton Colllege, entered the ministry and conducted a boys academy near Charlottsville, Virginia.
The subject of this sketch spent most of his life in business in Rockville About 1840 he was appointed by the Governor Prothonotary of Chester County and afterwards was for a few years in business in Baltimore. He had a quick sense of humor, keen observation and was an agreeable conversationalist, and was devoted in the traditions of the Presbyterian Church - he coming from good old Scotch-Irish blood. In politics he was a steadfast Democrat. His children, all of whom survive him, are; Mr. John J. Pinkerton, of our town, Mr. S. Stanhope Pinkerton, of Pittsburg, and Miss Belle Pinkerton, of Philadelphia.
Interment on Thursday morning on arival of Niagara express at Downingtown, to proceed to Brandywine Manor."
