Donald I. Yarnall, 84, of Ambler, a retired executive for a plastics firm, died Sunday at Fort Washington Estates after many years of suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
He entered the Fort Washington facility in March.
Mr. Yarnall retired in 1981 as vice president of Commercial Plastics & Supply Corp. of New York, after working for 26 years in that state and Cornwells Heights. Earlier, he spent 20 years in product development for Rohm & Haas Co. in Philadelphia and Bristol Township.A native of Philadelphia, he graduated from West Philadelphia High School and attended Drexel Institute of Technology for a year.
"It was still Depression times and his parents couldn't afford to send him back [to Drexel], but later he studied chemistry and physics at Temple University," said his wife, Edith Buerckle Yarnall.
During World War II, Mr. Yarnall, who suffered from rheumatic fever, passed his Army physical, "but the Navy wanted him to stay in his job because he was working on radar-plotting screens and [hardly anyone] knew what radar was at that time," she said.
During 14 years' residence in Oceanside, N.Y., he was a trustee, member of Session and choir member at First Presbyterian Church.
He lived in Ambler for 30 years.
Although Mr. Yarnall had a desk-type job, "he loved tools and machines and was very inventive, very clever in fixing things," his wife said.
"We never had a fight" during 58 years of marriage, she said.
Also surviving are a daughter, Christine Y. Swanson; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after noon today at Anton B. Urban Funeral Home, 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike in Ambler, where a service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Susquehanna Road and Butler Pike, Ambler.
Donald I. Yarnall, a retired company vice president, died Sunday, July 30, 2000 at Fort Washington Estates in Fort Washington. He was 84.
Mr. Yarnall, of Ambler, worked for Commercial Plastics & Supply Corp. of New York for 26 years, retiring in 1981 as vice president. He previously worked for Rohm & Haas in Philadelphia, Bristol and Bridesburg for 20 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside, N.Y., where he served as trustee, member of session and the choir, and chaired many committees. He was also member of the Society of Plastics Industry, the Society of Plastics Engineers and the American Chemical Society.
Born April 24, 1916 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Clarence and Eva (Sheneman) Yarnall.
Surviving are his wife, Edith B. (Buerckle) Yarnall; a daughter, Christine Y. Swanson of Maple Glen; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
