Hannah Rebecca Mitchell Parrish

Having recently celebrated her 90th birthday, Hannah Mitchell Parrish died Monday, June 22, 2009, at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, PA.
Hannah was born May 30, 1919 in Wilmington, DE daughter of Henry Cloud and Lidie Webster Mitchell. She was raised on Woodside Farm, Hockessin, DE and graduated high school from Sanford School (Sunny Hills). She is a graduate of Ambler School of Horticulture for Women and worked on a Pennsylvania farm before returning to farming at Woodside Farm with her father, brother, and uncles. In 1950, she married Lawrence T. Parrish, Jr. and joined him in dairy farming in Kennett Square, PA. In 1957, Parrish Brothers Mushrooms was instituted and the dairy later sold. Hannah was employed at Reeses Pharmacy in Kennett Square and The Holiday Inn Motel, Talleyville, DE. She was a long-time member of New Garden Friends Meeting. She was active in social groups including local Garden, Bridge, and Game Groups. Hannah served many years as a local 4-H Club leader.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence T. Parrish, Jr.; her brother, Joseph Mitchell and his wife Kathryne S. Mitchell, Hockessin, DE; 8 nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her sister, Martha Mitchell Lomax.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 am, Friday June 26, at New Garden Friends Meeting, at the Corner of Newark and New Garden Rd. Toughkenamon, PA 19374. Interment will be held privately at the adjoining cemetery.
