Notes for Florence L. JEFFERIS
Florence Jefferis Schramm of Kennett Square Florence Jefferis Schramm, 101, died peacefully in her sleep on December 28, 2011, at the Kendal Community near Kennett Square. Mrs. Schramm was active in Chester County good works for many years and was loved by everyone who knew her. Born January 23, 1910, in West Chester, she was the eldest child of Cora and Jonathan Jefferis. Her sister Virginia and brother, Wayne, predeceased her. After graduating from West Chester High School in 1928 and West Chester Normal School (now West Chester University) in 1930, Florence taught school in Pottstown and West Goshen Township. In 1934, Florence married Harold J. Schramm. They had two sons, Richard (of West Chester) and Lawrence (of Baltimore). Both Harold and Florence contributed actively to many West Chester organizations for many years: Birmingham Friends Meeting, Chester County Hospital, Planned Parenthood, The Hickman Home, Habitat for Humanity, The Wentworth, American Friends Service Committee, the Salvation Army, United Way and others. Harold Schramm died in 1974. Florence Schramm continued to live in their home on Price Street and contributed actively to community organizations helping those in need. In 1987, she moved to the Kendal Community, where she continued her good works. In addition to her sons, Richard and Lawrence, and their wives, Patricia and Diana, Mrs. Schramm is survived by a grandson, Christopher, as well as the children and grandchildren of her brother and sister. The Kendal Friends Meeting will hold a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 4th, at Kendal at Longwood, 1109 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square.
