Notes for Walter S. TAYLOR

Walter S. Taylor, 82, of Cape May, N.J., and formerly of West Chester, died peacefully Saturday, May 23, 2009, at his home in Cape May, surrounded by loved ones.
He was the husband of the late Ann Gilmore Taylor, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Chadds Ford, Walt (also known as Barney) was the son of the late David W. and Grace Harper Taylor.
He is survived by his daughters, Suzanne (and James) Reddick of Melbourne, Fla., and Kimberly (and John) Gordon of Chadds Ford; sister, Mary (and Herbert) Benjamin of West Chester; grandson, Kevin; several nieces and nephews; friend, Irene; and his faithful dog, Billy.
Along with his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Ruth; and his brothers, David, Frederick and Richard.
Walt was a 1945 graduate of West Chester High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a carpenter by trade and worked tirelessly to hone his wonderful craftsmanship. He never actually retired and was willing to act as consultant to anyone with a hammer or saw in hand.
In his later years he concentrated on having the best vegetable gardens in Cape May and shared the bounty with his many friends and neighbors.
Walt was a member of the Chester County Antique Car Club (1976 Man of the Year); the West Chester Exchange Club and supported the Salvation Army as a "bell ringer."
He was an antique car collector, a gardener and loved to fish.
Walt was a wonderful father, a great friend and loved to share stories about his life and the people he met along the way.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 29, at Cape May United Methodist Church, 635 Washington St., Cape May, N.J., where friends will be received from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m.
Interment will be held at a later date in Brandywine Baptist Church Cemetery, Chadds Ford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Walt's memory to the Salvation Army — West Chester (Attention: Business Office), 101 E. Market St., West Chester, PA 19380.
