Notes for Helen Sharples BUTLER

Helen Butler Hoffman of Kennett Square Helen Butler Hoffman, 94 of Kennett Square, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 at her home. She was the wife of the late Vernon Lewis Hoffman, Jr. Born Jan. 29, 1920 in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Butler and the late Helen Brinton Sharples Butler. Helen attended the West Chester Friends School and graduated from the University of Texas. She served her country in the Navy during WWII, and was discharged as a Lieutenant. Helen was a member of the West Chester Friends Meeting, West Chester Garden Club, and the Chester County Hospital Auxiliary. She served on several boards including West Chester Visiting Nurses Association, West Chester Public Library, the Barclay Home and Chester County Day. She was the treasurer of Barclay Friends and Chester County Day for many years. She is survived by her daughters, Louise Lewis Hoffman of Wilmington, Del., and Joan Hoffman Rupp and her husband James of Manhattan Beach, Calif. Also, she is survived by her granddaughters, Jennifer Rupp, and Kelsey Rupp. She was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Butler. Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Barclay Friends 700 North Franklin Street West Chester, PA 19380.
