John "Jack" R. Grider Sr., 91, of Lower Chichester, died Jan. 25 in Richmond, Va.

Born in Chester, Mr. Grider was a longtime resident of Lower Chichester.

Mr. Grider was a chemist and supervisor of organic and inorganic chemistry labs at Houdry Laboratory of Air Products (formerly owned by Sun Oil Co.) in Linwood for 30 years, until his retirement in the late 1970s.

A mason, Mr. Grider belonged to Lucas H. Scott 352 Masonic Lodge, now Chester Lodge 236 F&AM., 32nd Rite Scottish Consistory & Nur Temple of Wilmington, Del.

An avid piano player, Mr. Grider also participated in the Boy Scouts of America, enjoyed dancing and loved canoeing, especially on the Brandywine River.

Mr. Grider was the son of the late Elwood and Maty Cawood Grider, and brother of the late Harry B. Grider.

Survivors: Wife of 65 years, Annie Parker Waddell Grider; son, John "Jack" Grider Jr., of Richmond; one granddaughter.

Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Moreland-Pagano Funeral Home, 825 Main St., Trainer.

Visitation: 9-10 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.

Burial: Mt. Hope Cemetery, Aston.
