Notes for Oscar Leon MOORE
Oscar L. Moore, 95, of Honey Brook, formerly of Coatesville, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2009, at the Hickory House Nursing Home.
He was the widower of Jean Marsh Moore, who passed away in 2007 after they had shared 65 years of marriage together.
Born on Nov. 30, 1913, in Christiana, he was the son of the late Oscar H. Moore and Jane Zimmerman Moore.
He was a 1931 graduate of the Coatesville Area High School.
After high school, he attended West Chester University, then worked at Lukens Steel during the war.
He then graduated from the Rockwell School of Tuning, which launched him into his career as a piano tuner.
Oscar was esteemed as an expert piano tuner, and was a member of the Piano Tech Guild. He played for the New Holland Shriners, Tall Cedars and Lukens Steel Bands, as well as the Longwood Orchestra, and for numerous Chester County Schools.
He was a member of the Brandywine Goddard Lodge #383 F.&A M. of Coatesville.
Oscar was a committed member of the Olivet United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, was involved in Sunday school and played the piano.
Oscar loved the outdoors. He rode his bicycle up until he was in his mid-80s.
He is survived by one son, Thomas J. Moore, of Coatesville; two daughters: Jean Ann Lowery, of Kankakee, Ill., and Susan Jane Watkins, wife of William, of Boothwyn; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Newlin Moore, of Lafayette Hill, Robert Moore, of Forksville, William Moore, of Hershey, and Caroline Christian of Trenton, Mich.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, followed by interment in the Bellevue Presbyterian Cemetery in Gap.
Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing, which will be held at the funeral home from 10 until 10:45 a.m.
The Masonic Service will be held at 10:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Oscar's memory to the Olivet United Methodist Church, 310 E. Chestnut St., Coatesville, PA 19320.
