Margaret Yarnall Martinez, 92, passed away on January 30, 2013 in Wilmington, DE.
Born and raised nearby in rural Chester County, PA, she attended the University of Pennsylvania where she met her husband of 59 years, Boni P. Martinez (deceased). She settled in Wilmington and raised their three children. Awarded college and post graduate degrees from both the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University, she became a biology teacher at the Tatnall School in Wilmington, and subsequently a professor at West Chester University. She loved to travel, both in the US and abroad, especially with Elderhostel, and was an accomplished genealogist, methodically creating a robust family tree reaching back to the mid-16th century. She attended and taught at the Academy of Lifelong Learning.
Margaret is survived by her three children, Katharine Martinez (James) Coleman of Tucson, AZ, Peter C. (Carol) Martinez of Wilmington, and John G. (Connie-Jo) Martinez of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren, Megan Pica, Ashley Shildt, Zachary Martinez, Max Martinez, and Evan Martinez; and two great-granddaughters, Jillian Shildt and Pearl Shildt. In addition to her husband, Margaret is predeceased by her parents, William and Miriam (nee Ridge) Yarnall, two brothers William "Mac" and Warren Yarnall and a granddaughter, Claire Martinez.
