Notes for Walter Corkran DARLINGTON
W. Corkran Darlington, 93 A true gentleman, lifelong local resident "Cork" Darlington, 93, a resident of Glen Mills, a golfer, boater, poker player, retired insurance broker and estate planner, born in Media, died on December 14, 2010, of heart failure and complications following a fall. Cork grew up in Media with 2 brothers and 2 sisters, attended Media High School and graduated from Penn State University where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He served in the Navy aboard a carrier in the Atlantic as a communications officer during WWII and entered the insurance business after the war. He met his wife Marjorie (Marge) Mingin Darlington, who survives him, through one of his sisters but they had previously encountered each other on the Media trolley where Cork looked characteristically dapper in a Chesterfield coat and bowler, catching Marge's eye. They were married in 1942. After the war, Cork and Marge lived in Media and then moved to Wallingford in 1950 and then to Rose Valley where Cork was an active community member and local leader. Cork spent summers on Long Beach Island where he was a member of the Brant Beach Yacht Club and he played golf with other members of The Bird Watchers at Seaview Country Club. Survivors: Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughters Sue and Jody; sister Nancy Darlington Sweney of KS; grandchildren Kate Wiggins of Pompano Beach, FL and Wayne Wiggins, Jr. and his wife Tricia of San Francisco, CA; also great-grandchildren Stella and Benjamin of San Francisco. Service: A celebration of Cork's life will be held early in the new year.
