Notes for Elisabeth Estelle PIKE
Betty Levin, 85, of Wilmington, Del., a former resident of Media, died April 1 at Methodist Country House after a courageous struggle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Born in Chester, Mrs. Levin graduated from Media High School in 1942, where she was secretary of her class. She attended Penn State University and received a degree in home economics in 1946. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority.
In 1948, she married Dr. Raymond Wesley Hillyard and they had five children. In 1980, she married Philip Morris Levin.
Mrs. Levin’s greatest joy was her family. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved and supported them in many ways.
Mrs. Levin was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church Christiana Hundred. She delighted in being a dedicated guide at Hagley Museum for 40 years. She was a member of the Greenville Country Club where she was an avid tennis player. She was also a member of the Welcome Society. She and her husband traveled extensively in their retirement.
Mrs. Levin was the mother of the late Barbara Cobourn Hillyard. She was the sister of the late Dr. Isaac Smedley Pike III. She was the widow of Philip Morris Levin. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Isaac Smedley Pike Jr., and Laura Cobourn Pike.
Survivors: Children, Susan Hillyard Snead of Wilmington, Elisabeth Hillyard Phillippe of Norwood, N.C., Dr. Raymond Wesley Hillyard Jr. of Winchester, Va., Dr. Gregory Atwood Hillyard of Media; stepchildren, Daniel Levin of Berkeley, Calif., Diana Levin Wexman of Ramona, Calif., Claudia Levin of Rodeo, Calif., Andrew Levin of Chapel Hill, N.C. 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, Greenville, Del.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington.
Burial: Media Cemetery.
