Notes for Walter Zene CRAIG
Walter Zene Craig Sr. of Glen Mills Walter Zene Craig, Sr., “Walt”, age 91, of Fox Hill Farms, Glen Mills, PA and Jupiter, FL, died at home on May 2, 2016. Born in Chester, PA, Walt had been a longtime resident of Parkside, and later, Wallingford, PA and Long Beach Island, NJ. He was a 1945 graduate of Chester High School and attended Penn State University. Walt served in the United States Navy for three years during World War II, having sought his parents’ special permission to join as a minor when just a sophomore in high school. He worked for Sun Oil Company in Marcus Hook for over 40 years, starting as an electrician and eventually serving as Director of Building Maintenance. Walt was very active with the Parkside Fire Company, later as Fire Chief. He also served on Parkside’s borough council and was a member of the Sun Honor Club. Walt enjoyed his family, friends, and colleagues that he worked with at Sun Oil Company. Everyone enjoyed Walt’s company, and he was loving and gracious until the end. Once retired, Walt enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Walt was an avid reader and authority on American history, particularly the Civil War, and became quite an expert on the “up’s and down’s” of the stock market as he made his own investments. Walt was the son of the late Herbert and Ida (Simmons) Craig and was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Claire Delaney Craig. He is survived by his children, Sandra (John) Gamble, Walter (Donna) Craig, and Lynne (Frank) Baldino; 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and his companion of recent years, Marie Furlan. VISITATION: Monday, May 9 from 12:00-1:15 pm at Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home Ltd., 5980 Chichester Ave, Aston, PA. FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, May 9 at 1:30 pm at Nolan-Fidale Funeral Home Ltd. BURIAL: Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood.
