Notes for William Franklin Jr. SHARPLESS

William F. Sharpless, former general manager of the Clarence L. Myers Co. and a decorated fire official, died Sunday. He was 75 and lived in Chester.
Sharpless had worked for the Myers Co., formerly the Ewing Thomas Co., for 45 years. He was active in various community affairs and helped build the Moyamensing Fire Co., serving as its president for 12 years. He was chairman of the board of directors of the Delaware County Firemen's Association, composed of 79 companies.
Appointed the first city fire administrator in Chester, Sharpless was cited for numerous fire rescues.
He was named Mason of the Year in 1974 by the Chester Keystone Club. He was a charter member of the International Association of Arson Investigators and served on the Chester Fire Department's Fire Prevention Committee.
Sharpless was a former member of the Chester Masonic Association and a representative to the Masonic Homes of Pennsylvania and the Elkins Home for Girls in Philadelphia.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, the former Margaret Carter; a daughter, Margaret S. Diggins; a sister, Edna Mosely; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at George H. Brower Funeral Home, 1600 Edgement Ave., where friends may call after 7 Thursday night. Masonic services will be at 8 Thursday night at the funeral home. Burial will be in Chester Rural Cemetery, Edgmont Avenue, Chester.
