Notes for Elizabeth Wright MIFFLIN

Elizabeth Mifflin Thayer, 68, a Haverford resident and graduate of the Agnes Irwin School, died Wednesday in Princeton, N.J.

Mrs. Thayer was born and raised in Haverford and resided occasionally in Princeton. She was a member of Colonial Dames, Philadelphia Chapter, and a descendant of Thomas Mifflin, the first governor of Pennsylvania. Mrs. Thayer also was the granddaughter of Francis Xavier Durcum, a president of the Philadelphia Philosophical Society and personal physician of President Grover Cleveland.

A volunteer worker, Mrs. Thayer was known in the Princeton community for her compassion in working with those recovering from drug and alcohol abuse.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Russell Thayer 3d; sons Russell Dixon, Samuel Mifflin and David Alexander; daughters Elizabeth Thayer Verney and Shelby Thayer Saunders; a sister, and six grandchildren.

Services will be graveside at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Church of the Redeemer Cemetery, Bryn Mawr. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 33 Mercer St., Princeton. Arrangements are being handled by the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home in Princeton.
