Mary Wootten Carpenter and Adam Desmond Zagorin were married yesterday in the Manhattan apartment of her mother, Mrs. Charles Thieriot of Locust Valley, L.I. Judge Walter M. Schackman of the New York City Civil Court officiated.
Mrs. Zagorin, a daughter also of Edmund Nelson Carpenter 2d, a lawyer in Wilmington, Del., graduated from the Ethel Walker School and Wellesley College and received a master's degree in journalism from the Boston University School of Public Communcation.
She is a staff writer for Self magazine, but expects to resign to join her husband, a correspondent for Time who was recently assigned to the magazine's Paris bureau. Her previous marriage ended in divorce.
Mr. Zagorin, whose assignments since joining Time in 1978 have included Bonn and Beirut, graduated from the Harley School in Rochester and Northwestern University. He received a master's degree in international relations from Columbia University. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Perez Zagorin of Scottsville, N.Y. His father is the Joseph C. Wilson Professor of History at the University of Rochester. His mother, known professionally as Honore Sharrer, is an artist.
