Notes for George Jr. PATTERSON
Lived most of his life in Pottsville, Pa after leaving his parent's Juniata County homestead.
He moved to Schuykill County and entered the coal business in April 1830.
He built the Columbia Furnace in 1839 at Danville, Montour County, Pa
He built the William Penn Furnace in 1843 at Spring Mill near Philadelphia, Pa
In April of 1834 he bought 5,000 acres in Little Mahanoy Township for $25,000.
In December 1833 he was elected President of the Mill Creek and Mine Hill Navigation & Railroad Company he held the post for many years. The railroad extended from Port Carbon to St Clair.
He owned the William Penn Furnace at Spring Mill on the Schuylkill river 12 miles from Philadelphia
He was one of four owners of the Montgomery Furnace at Port Kennedy but sold his interest to John Sippen of Pottsville in 1862.
