With family gathered around her, Doris M. Pyle, age 87, of Newark, Delaware, went home on December 24, 2016, to celebrate Christmas with the Lord.
Doris was born in Wilmington, DE, on April 3, 1929, to Louisa and Clan C. Wilson. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband of 27 years, Lewis Pyle, and brothers Clarence (Rick) Wilson and Frederick Wilson.
Doris was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Dover, Delaware. She also was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Caesar Rodney Chapter #8, for 26 years. She enjoyed reading, emailing with friends and family, facetiming and playing games on her iPad; coloring, water aerobics and Bingo at the Senior Center; visiting with neighbors and hanging out at the pool in the summer.
Doris and Lew enjoyed 27 years living in their dream home on 2 acres in Clayton, Delaware, tending to their vegetable, flower gardens and fruit trees. They also enjoyed traveling, hosting the annual Easter egg hunt and Thanksgiving dinner for family. Doris spent many hours creating beautiful ceramic pieces and needlework items.
Doris is survived by daughters, Deanna M. Jenks (John McGuire), Sharon G. Jenks, Barbara A. Scallion (Tom), Louisa E. Jenks (Evelyn Miller); sons, Edward B. Jenks, III and Paul W. Jenks (Mary Jane); 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; her sister, Louisa May Mitchell, sister-in-law, Mabel Wilson and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend services at the Gracelawn Memorial Chapel, 2220 N. Dupont Hwy, New Castle, DE on Saturday, December 31st. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 am, followed by a Celebration of Doris' Life at 11am beginning with an Eastern Star service. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Seasons Hospice, 300 Biddle Ave., Unit 205, Newark, DE 19702 or Order of Eastern Star, 6 High Pond Drive, Newark, DE 19711.
