Note: Amos Slaymaker commanded a company of Associates, and was very active in suppressing the Doanes and other Tories. He was one of the projectors and largest stockholders in the Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike in 1799, and one of the original proprietors of the first stage line from Philadelphia to the West. He was a member of Congress in 1811-14 and a magistrate for many years. He was a member of the House of Representatives and State Senate and county commissioner.

SLAYMAKER, AMOS, soldier, congressman; was born March 11, 1755, in London Lands, Pa. He served as a soldier in the revolutionary army. He was a representative in congress from Pennsylvania during a part of the thirteenth congress to fill a vacancy. He died June 12, 1837, in Salisbury, Pa.
