Notes for Alice Deborah BROWN

ALLIS BROWN BORTON, 87, of Medford, formerly of Moorestown, died April 8 at home.
Involved in education for most of her life, Mrs. Borton had taught elementary school at Haverford Friends School in Pennsylvania and at Moorestown Friends School. She was the chairwoman and a member of the board of directors at Moorestown Friends for many years, and had served as overseer of Moorestown Friends Meeting. She also chaired several education committees for the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. She was a graduate of Westtown School and Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania.
In her childhood, Mrs. Borton was a "camp girl" at the family-run Back Log Camp on Indian Lake, N.Y. She later was the camp's "family woman" and housekeeper, responsible for managing all the sleeping arrangements and food for 100 people living in the woods. It was an especially demanding job during World War II, when food was being rationed. This is the 100th anniversary of the Brown family camping operation. She was the widow of Alfred C. Borton.
Survivors: a son, David Newbold Borton of Troy, N.Y.; two daughters, Deborah H. Borton of Haddam, Conn., and Alison Borton Libshitz of Houston; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a brother, Thomas Shipley Brown of Westtown, Pa.
Services: memorial, 2:30 p.m. today, Moorestown Friends Meeting House, Main Street, Moorestown; burial, Mount Laurel Friends Cemetery. Lewis Funeral Home, Moorestown.
