Deceased Name: FARAWAY FARM OWNER WALTER JEFFORDS JR. DIES
Walter Morrison Jeffords Jr., the owner of Faraway Farm on Huffman Mill Pike, the original home of the famous racehorse Man o' War, died Saturday near South Padre Island, Texas. He was 74.
Mr. Jeffords' family had been in the thoroughbred horse business in Kentucky since early this century. His parents were former partners in the Huffman Mill Pike farm.
The farm had the first offspring of Triple Crown winner Secretariat. The filly, out of My Card, was sold as a yearling in 1976.

Mr. Jeffords, who grew up in the Philadelphia area and lived in New York, also was involved in private investments. He held property in Texas, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Maine. In recent years he had scaled back his Kentucky thoroughbred operation, and his horses now are at Shandon Farm on Russell Cave Pike.
Mr. Jeffords was a member of the Jockey Club.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Jeffords; three sons, Walter Jeffords III, George Jeffords and John Jeffords; and a daughter, Sarah Radcliffe.
