Notes for Thomas BALCH

Thomas Balch was a graduate of Columbia University, and a prominent member of the Philadelphia Bar. He was much devoted to literary pursuits and wrote a number of articles on finance, social science and miscellaneous subjects. He was first to propose a Court of International Arbitration. Among his literary productions are, "Les Francais de l'Independance des Etats-Unis, 1777-83." "Letters and Papers relating chiefly to the Provincial History of Pennsylvania" and "The Maryland Papers". He died in Philadelphia. March 29, 1877.
